"I had a new damper installed on our chimney, and it failed within two years. The heat from the fireplace compromised the tension in the springs that hold the louvers open so smoke could escape. I thought there could be a better design that doesn’t utilize this spring system, so I invented this. My design would provide added safety, and it would not restrict airflow within the throat of the chimney."

- Rectangular, open angle-frame unit with a hinged top cover
- The hinged lid would be hinged on one side
- The top perimeter edge of the open angle-frame enclosure would have a fireproof sealing rope gasket permanently attached to create the proper seal
